Water Corporation is taking action and youth with disability are their focus

In a recent announcement, Water Corporation highlighted their understanding that people with disability are almost twice as likely to be unemployed than people without. As part of their commitment to improve disability access and inclusion, Water Corporation are ensuring youth with disability are a key focus of their new work experience placement and traineeship program, enabling them to become work ready.

“Water Corporation’s forthcoming work experience and traineeship program will provide valuable insights in a supportive environment, helping these young people enter the job market,” said Water Minister Dave Kelly.

Providing young people with disability the best possible employment education, support and opportunities is a major focus here at Edge, and we are delighted to be partnering with Water Corporation to support their new initiative.

Our Business Development Manager, Daniel Doble, is assisting to secure three School Based Traineeships (SBT’s) in administration roles at Water Corporation’s head office in Leederville. The students will be completing their Certificate 2 in Workplace Skills and will start next month.

Since establishing our relationship with Water Corporation in 1995, we have placed six Edge clients, and we now have an additional three School Based Traineeship recipients. These numbers really demonstrate how beneficial a strong and ongoing relationship with a Disability Employment Service (DES) provider can be for an employer who is actively and progressively diversifying their workforce.

Water Corporation further announced several overall initiatives they will be implementing to support their commitment to youth, including accessibility upgrades, workplace disability confidence training, modifying recruitment practices. These initiatives support Water Corporation to ensure they are inclusive and will continue to engage with DES providers, such as Edge, to build talent pools.

The announcement of their new initiatives is taking Water Corporation’s long-standing commitment a big step further. The Edge team are very excited and proud to continue to work with organisations that recognise the importance of representing the community. We look forward to updating you on the progress of the School Based Trainees!
