Shooting goals

Sophia has been assisted by the Edge team and Edge’s NDIS School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) for nearly a year. During this time Sophia has been supported through various work experience roles with her current placement being extra special.

Working closely with her NDIS Consultant Caitlin, they identified some local businesses that Sophia could see herself assisting. Sophia had a particular interest in working at the local gymnastics centre Star-Mites as she used to attend the centre as a child. Knowing this Caitlin spoke with the teams at Loftus Recreation Centre and Star-Mites, and organised a work experience opportunity for Sophia.

The team at Star-Mites recognised Sophia and were very welcoming to the idea of Sophia assisting with coaching the Sweet Peas program once a week. The program is educational gymnastics designed to promote physical, social and cognitive development in children from six months to six years old.

With the help of her NDIS Consultant and the warm welcome she received, Sophia completed her first work experience at both Star-Mites Gymnastics and Loftus Recreation Centre. Sophia even got to shoot some goals after her shift and showed off her great skills to Caitlin. Sophia is already looking forward to next week!
