Growing and changing

As with any company, it is always rewarding when people reach major career milestones and particularly exciting to look back over a person’s time in a business to see their growth. Eugene is a great example of this.

Eugene started his career with Woolworths 15 years ago.

Originally employed for Night Fill, Eugene worked hard and learned his role well, becoming one of Woolworths’ most reliable and experienced back-end employees. His confidence with customers grew and he became comfortable answering questions, even offering suggestions to management.

As part of an overall redeployment of employees, the opportunity to become trained in other areas including trolley collection, online shopping, assisting at self-checkout and working on the till arose for Eugene.

Eugene quickly became skilled at the cash register and became a faster packer with experience, but he found learning the various names of uncommon fruit and vegetables more challenging. With hard work and support from his Edge Job Coach, Eugene embraced the new challenge and learnt all the varieties of fruit and vegetables. He can even answer a ‘priority one call out’ to assist colleagues who need help at the front of the store when they get busy, which he loves doing.

A massive congratulations and shout out to Eugene on this wonderful achievement and to the supportive Managers and Team at Woolworths Mount Hawthorn for assisting Eugene’s personal and professional growth over the years.
