Framing the future
Edge’s Project Employment program plays a key role in assisting young people build the skills, confidence and real-world experience they need to prepare for life after school. For Jack, a student who completed the program in Term 2 2024 and dreams of becoming an audio-visual technician and professional photographer and videographer, the experience has been truly transformative.
Jack joined Project Employment to assist him in bridging the gap between school and entering the workforce. “Project Employment was a lot of fun,” Jack says. “The best part of the course is when we had our practice interviews and it felt like the real thing.” The mock interviews occur during the seven week program, allowing students to build confidence and receive valuable feedback from the Edge team in a supportive environment.
Throughout the course, Jack developed key workplace and life skills that will serve him well into the future. “It helped me understand the correct methods of how to get employed and more details about managing my life,” he shared.
After graduating from the course, the Edge team assisted Jack in securing a work experience opportunity at Jaycar. During this placement, Jack learned how to work at a counter, restock shelves and handle new stock. Importantly, he built strong relationships and further developed his teamwork and communication skills.
Jack is studying a Certificate III in Screen and Media, Film and Television at North Metropolitan TAFE. He has a strong passion for cameras, photography and technology. Jack recently filmed his high school’s musical for the fourth time and is now about to start work experience at the State Theatre. We’re incredibly proud of Jack’s achievements so far and look forward to continuing to support him as he works towards his dream career.
