Excellence in supporting employment outcomes

On March 24, some of our Edge team attended the WA Disability Support Awards at Crown Perth in support of Edge NDIS Consultant David Cook’s nomination.

The WA Disability Support Awards celebrate the significant contribution of individual workers and teams who support people with disability to achieve their goals. The Awards recognise and reward people who go beyond ordinary standards of service and provide the highest standard of individualised support to people with disability.

The Awards highlight the important role of disability sector workers in providing high quality services that support people with disability exercise real choice and control. Award nominees demonstrate excellence and commitment in supporting people with disability.

We are extremely proud of David for being nominated for Excellence in Supporting Employment Outcomes. He was one of nine individual nominees and progressed to a top three finalist.

David’s journey in the disability sector started five years ago. He joined Edge in 2021 with the goal to help us achieve our purpose of changing lives through the power of employment.

“Before entering the disability industry, I was a banker. After a crazy thought that maybe I could find a job with the goal of helping people, I decided it was time for a change,” said David.

“I am honoured to be nominated by a client for the support I provide but this job is so much more than an individual nomination. Dave Scragg (Edge Regional Manager) and Julie Stewart (Edge NDIS Operations Manager) have mentored and led me for several years and set the standard.

Without the support of my colleagues, the level of success I have had would not be nearly so pronounced. In fact, every client I’ve helped, every shred of good that I’ve done, has all happened because of a single conversation. One manager saw something inside a person that was struggling with their own crisis, helped to bring it out into the light and taught me to do the same for others. Thank you Dave. That’s what makes this place (Edge) special. It’s a team sport.

The most important lesson I learned in my career was from Dave himself. I learned to make an impact, maybe even change the world, you don’t need to solve the energy crisis or stop world hunger. You just have to try your best to be a positive force in the lives of the people around you and encourage them to do the same. The butterfly effect will take care of the rest.”

Congratulations David for such a great achievement and for being recognised for the amazing support you provide to people with disability. We look forward to continuing to support you while you use your warm person-centred approach to continue making a difference to so many.
