Break the bias
On March 8 we celebrated International Women’s Day. A global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
The 2022 campaign theme is #BreakTheBias.
‘Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.’
At Edge we understand the importance of challenging all biases, including unconscious bias. It affects us all. Our subconscious attitudes make us think and feel about others differently, even if we don’t intend to do so. These attitudes, which can be from childhood or absorbed over time by our environments, affect our behaviours.
Unconscious bias occurs in the workplace and affects all parts of the employee lifecycle, from recruitment to career development and performance management. It is something our team see on a regular basis.
We ask that you become aware and call out all biases, be it characteristic biases like gender, race and age, or disability, among others. We all need to do our part to break all biases.
Bias, deliberate or unconscious, makes it difficult for discriminated against groups to move forward. Simply identifying your biases is not enough. We all must act to ensure fairness for all. You can start by accepting and understanding your unconscious biases, avoiding stereotypes, monitoring your behaviour and calling out stereotyping and discrimination when you see it.
The Edge team stand with the International Women’s Day movement to break the bias.
‘Individually, we’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions – all day, every day.
We can break the bias in our communities.
We can break the bias in our workplaces.
We can break the bias in our schools, colleges and universities.
Together, we can all break the bias – on International Women’s Day and beyond.’
