Writing his own history
As a Year 10 student, Aleks was keen to upskill and prepare for future employment. That’s where Project Employment came in. Edge’s employment pathway program for school students has been created and tailored to support school-aged students in making a smoother transition from high school to the workplace.
Aleks was a respectful and friendly student who had an interest in all things historical. He graduated from the seven week work preparation program in Term 1 this year.
Recognising his passion for history, Employment Liaison Officer, Bec, connected with the West Australian Police Historical Society in Highgate. They were great in offering Aleks a unique opportunity to complete work experience in their library, helping to digitise archives and catalogue books into spreadsheets.
In April, Aleks and his Consultant, Margaret, visited their museum and met with Carol, the Society’s Treasurer. The visit turned into a memorable afternoon filled with stories and insights into Western Australia’s policing history.
Reflecting on his experience, Aleks shared that Project Employment, “helped me learn more about different workplaces and gave me the confidence to think about what I would like to do in the future.”
Aleks dreams of working in a museum, becoming a pit stop mechanic for F1 cars, or contributing to the defence industry.
We wish Aleks all the best as he continues his journey from school to the workplace, and we look forward to supporting him every step of the way.
