Term 2 Success
In June, we celebrated another successful graduation of Project Employment students from Subiaco and Joondalup. The students began our seven-week work preparation program with resume and skill building, which they continued to develop over the term. Throughout the program, the students learned about communication skills, job interviews, and employment skills. Interview preparation was completed before the group attended mock interviews with various Edge staff members so the students could put their new skills to the test.
Over the term, the students also delved into practical life skills such as understanding tax, tax file numbers, bank accounts, pay slips and superannuation. The program also placed a strong emphasis on personal development, with the students exploring nutrition, healthy eating, daily hygiene and routines. These life skills are crucial in setting them up for success in their future endeavours.
Undoubtedly, a highlight of the term was the week six excursion to various worksites. This unique opportunity allowed the students to enter the real world and visit prominent organisations such as Bunnings, Woolworths, EB Games, Rebel Sports and the Westin Perth Hotel. The managers and staff of these businesses generously guided the group through their worksites, offering a valuable glimpse into the diverse roles and positions available. This hands-on experience was a significant step in their career exploration journey.
Graduation came around quickly, and each student proudly received their certificate in front of their guardians, parents, siblings, friends and grandparents. Congratulations to all Term 2 graduates, and we look forward to sharing their stories with you.
