Tayla is flourishing in her school-based traineeship

At Edge we place a large focus on supporting young people with disability through School Based Traineeships. We are proud to work with schools, students, support networks and employers to create a safe and fulfilling future for the young people of Perth.

One of these promising youths is Tayla who is currently completing a School Based Traineeship and Certificate II in Business at Port City Real Estate. Tayla was impacted by Coronavirus when her original employer suffered financial constraints and was no longer able to provide Tayla the opportunity to finish her Certificate.

One of Edge’s dedicated Employer Consultants, Alan, was determined to allow Tayla to finish her traineeship. After 10 hours of walking around Fremantle and lots of door knocking, Alan met Glenda. As the Director and Owner of Port City Real Estate, Glenda was willing to give Tayla the opportunity she needed to complete her traineeship and pass on her great guidance.

After a few months, Tayla became part of the Port City Real Estate family and is flourishing. Tayla only wanted the chance to complete her traineeship, but she received so much more, “I’ve gained insight on real-world work experience and life outside of school.” Tayla is an all-rounder at the office and has already learnt a lot on the job, from filing to a whole new business management software.

Glenda’s Job Coach, Sabine says, “I am so happy to be on this journey with Glenda. It has been incredibly rewarding for everyone.”

Tayla believes in having a dream, “If you’ve got a dream, go for it. But you’ll need to work hard to get what you want.”
