Study, support and success

Sharla’s journey towards the perfect opportunity began with support from our Edge DES team, who helped Sharla explore her interests and skills as part of her job search. After working in partnership, we soon linked in with Hendercare and secured a role that aligned with both her goals and her passion for helping others.

Wanting to build on her skills, Sharla used her NDIS plan to access study support through our NDIS team. This opened the door to further learning and upskilling. Sharla shared that, “Edge gave me additional help when it came to studying for my course and helped me to find my job at Hendercare.”

Supported by her Employment Support Coach, Kylie, Sharla worked diligently and achieved a significant career milestone. Sharla proudly shared, “Edge helped with studying for a Certificate IV in Ageing Support. I have now passed my Certificate IV and feel confident in my career pathway.”

Balancing study with work had its challenges, but Sharla managed this well, knowing she had the Edge team’s support. The support extended beyond study, providing Sharla a safe space to share her thoughts and navigate workplace challenges with Kylie.

“Edge has helped with studying and helped when I need to talk to someone about work challenges. I enjoyed having someone to help with study and someone to talk to as well about work.”

Now two years into her role as a Domestic Assistant and Carer at Hendercare, Sharla continues to thrive, making a positive difference to others each day. “Edge made me feel supported and more confident in myself.”
