Nurturing skills, confidence and a sense of belonging.
When Michael started volunteering at Apace WA working with native plant seedlings, he was taking his first steps toward building confidence in a work environment.
With the support of Janette, his NDIS Employment Support Coach, what began as a weekly commitment soon blossomed into a journey of personal growth, social connection and skills development.
The support provided by the Apace Team led by General Manager Zoe Johnson has played a big role. “Over the past 12 months Michael’s confidence has grown, and he now enjoys some friendly banter with staff and fellow volunteers in and around the kitchen at morning tea time,” said Zoe.
“He is a quick learner, helping us out with a number of essential tasks, but he has also been teaching us a thing or too!” said Debbie Murphy, who onboards volunteers in her role as Apace’s Events and Community Coordinator.
“He has quickly become a valued member of the Apace family. His sense of humour, quick wit and intelligence make him great company.”
“I believe working at Apace is a good first step to getting a job through preparing me through work experience. I get satisfaction from the work I do at Apace and at times, I even want to work additional hours.
