Nothing to lose and everything to gain

“You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.”

That was Amelia’s advice when it came to her employment journey, and we feel it’s quite fitting.

Amelia’s journey with Edge began after she was recommended our services to assist her with finding and securing employment. After registering and working closely with the Edge Joondalup team, Amelia landed a Laboratory Assistant position at PathWest where she manages the doctor’s database and merges data, ensuring client details are correct and confirming patient demographics.

Working alongside the Edge team and with Edge Job Coach Natalie has made Amelia feel understood, heard, empowered and relieved. “The job world is terrifying, but with the help of Edge, the waters will be calmer, so get on the boat and give it a go!”

Being supported in her role for the last 18 months has been an important part of Amelia’s success over this period, “Edge helped me with the interview process to find a job. Then with off-site support due to limited access when I’m working, providing encouragement, debriefing conversations, reassurance, assisting with contracts, pay slips and ergonomics. The support has helped with communication strategies, social cues, navigating business requirements and professional tips.”

When we asked Amelia about the impact of employment, she shared, “It has financially changed my life. I am able to fill my car with petrol without having to check my bank account. It has given me a sense of purpose. I am also a good role model for my children, showing aspirations and goals can be achieved in employment.”

Along with Edge’s support, the PathWest work environment has allowed Amelia to excel, sharing, “The team I work for are friendly and the environment is quiet which supports my sensory barriers.”

One of the projects Amelia is working on has been selected as a finalist for Excellence in Workplace Wellbeing and Culture at the WA Health Excellence Awards. Amelia is also studying and working towards a degree in psychology. We wish Amelia and her team all the best at the upcoming WA Health Excellence Awards Gala Dinner and look forward to seeing what else she achieves in her role.
