Matty’s incredible achievement
Congratulations to Matty for 20 years of service at Woolworths Midland Gate!
Matty landed the job at Woolworths after completing work experience during high school. He was registered by our Edge co-founder, Sue Robertson after his high school recommended Edge’s services.
Since then, Matty has gone from strength to strength working as a Bakery Team Member and is on the Safety Team as a Store Safety Ambassador. Matty is also a mentor to a new employee and is listed for new staff as ‘who to ask for help’.
Matty loves his job, “I like the company, I’ve made new friends and love the opportunity to mentor. My colleagues are very supportive and my Store Manager loves me.”
Receiving the opportunity at Woolworths 20 years ago has truly changed his life, “It’s taught me about life, independence and being able to do things that I want to do. I like being able to pay for going out to the movies with my friends.”
Having a Job Coach and Edge’s support has positively benefited Matty, “I’ve had help working in all different departments and am now settled in the bakery. My Job Coach has helped me get the spacing on the cookies correct so when they’re baked, they don’t come out as just one big cookie.”
When we asked Matty how his Job Coach has made him feel, he replied, “Good and I have fun, I’m more comfortable and confident. I am better off having Edge’s help as I work better because of Edge.”
Pictured with Matty is his proud Dad Michael, “With great support and encouragement from his work colleagues and Edge, Matty has developed important work skills and ethics. Although there have been some challenging moments in his career, the care, patience and guidance of his colleagues and support staff have helped him overcome any difficulties.
I know Matty absolutely loves his workplace. This is no more evident than when I walk down the aisles to visit him at work and hear him singing at the top of his voice! We are all so proud of Matty and know the value he adds to his workplace.”
