Jessica – A decade on at DVA
Ten years ago, Jessica was presented with a life-changing opportunity when she connected with the Edge team on the advice of her high school. Edge secured an employment opportunity for Jessica at the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA). “Edge procured the job, so I had no interview and was a straight starter,” said Jessica.
“My job gives me independence and gets me out of the house. I enjoy the wages and what I can do with it. I also get treated as an equal.”
Reflecting on the last decade, Jessica is grateful for the opportunity she received and for the truly life-changing impact employment has had. Throughout her employment journey, Edge has supported Jessica with regular ongoing support. “Edge has made me feel amazing and comfortable. When I was having issues, Edge assisted me.”
Our support goes beyond helping clients secure employment. We assist our clients in getting job-ready and continue providing workplace support and capacity building when required. Our team assisted Jessica with essential training in software including Excel and other programs, equipping her with crucial skills for her role.
As a Support Officer, Jessica has flourished and loved every year at DVA. “I love everything about my job! I get along with all my colleagues and enjoy the tasks.”
Michelle, Director of Performance and Wellbeing Team Assistant at DVA, praised Jessica’s positive impact on the team. “Jessica is the friendliest team member, nothing is too much trouble. She always has time for everyone. Jessica is a real delight.”
Jessica’s journey is a testament to the positive impact of meaningful employment and the long-term support from the Edge team.
