Jack’s journey

Jack’s journey with Edge started when he began volunteering at Jim Kidd Sports Joondalup after a successful work experience placement with school. Jack’s mum said, “Jack was very happy and achieved many goals whilst there such as travelling independently, working as part of a team and increasing his self-esteem. Edge’s Account Manager worked very hard to try and get Jack paid employment at Jim Kidd and succeeded in securing Jack a supported wage.”

As with any business, things change and the store no longer required Jack’s services, leaving him devastated. After a period of unemployment, Jack was matched with his new Edge Employer Consultant, Claire.

Jack’s mum is appreciative of her support, “Claire has been amazing; she really got to know Jack and took him out to meet prospective employers and hand out his resume. Claire gave Jack the confidence to approach the store manager with his resume and ask questions about the job role.

I was then advised by Claire that there was a job opportunity at Kmart in Joondalup, Jack was successful in gaining employment. He’s absolutely loving it. My husband Jason and I have seen such a change in him, Jack has a real spring in his step now, he has a purpose and every time I ask him how his day was, he says it was ‘great’.”

Since starting his role as a Kmart Team Member in October, Jack has gone from strength to strength and was nominated in January for the Loss Prevention Champion Award where he received a certificate and voucher for assisting the store with security and lost property.

Edge Job Coach Luke supports Jack, whom he was matched with due to their common interest in DC Comics. Jack recently shared with Luke the enjoyment he is getting from his role at Kmart, “I like working at Kmart, everything is simple with what they have me do here. I put security tags on items and put them on the shelves where they go, then I know I’ve done a good job.” Jack also shared he loves his workplace being near his favourite food shop, Oporto, so he gets to enjoy his favourite chicken burger for lunch.

Jack’s mum also shared, “I just wanted to thank you both so much for your recent efforts in securing my son Jack’s employment at Kmart in Joondalup. I can’t thank Claire and Will enough for the effort, help and support they have given to Jack through this process.”

His employment journey continued to reach new heights when Jack was recently advised by his Manager Lisa that he is being offered a part-time contract. A massive congratulations to Jack on this achievement. We are watching your continued growth closely and cheering you on!
