Emma finds her mojo at Cafe Mojo

Emma reached out to Edge after a recommendation from a close family member, to see how we could assist in her search to find meaningful employment. We reached out to one of our employers, Café Mojo, and very quickly helped Emma to secure a role as a kitchenhand. Because Emma was hardworking, smart, reliable and had a great sense of humour, it didn’t take long before her skills were recognised, and she was moved into the role of Apprentice Chef.

Two years on, Emma loves her job because it adds meaning to her life. She has built great relationships with her colleagues and managers, and enjoys the team she works with, “They are really supportive and understanding. I can talk to them about anything, they listen and take my views into consideration. Being employed has changed my life. I get to live my dream, and now I feel independent and confident in my future.”

With a Certificate II in IT and a Certificate III in Business and Administration, Emma is currently completing her Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, and is optimistic about the path she is on.

Emma is grateful for the ongoing support she receives from her Job Coach, Chelsea. “Chelsea is always encouraging and supportive, which in turns makes me feel empowered and positive.”

When we asked how Edge has helped Emma over the years, she responded, “They were always available if I needed anything, and have been very involved from the start, which is great. They were also very supportive when I was doing my driver’s license, and through my personal and work life. I believe Edge are genuinely interested in helping me.”

In closing, Emma’s advice to anyone is, “Give someone with a disability a chance, because they may surprise you.”
