Composer Suzanne takes flight for her World Premiere
Recently, Suzanne received the news that her Choral Composition was chosen to be performed at the 77th Cantors Assembly Convention in Minneapolis, USA. Her piece was chosen from a competitive pool of international applicants and was performed at the end of May. Edge NDIS Employment Support Coach Chantal has been assisting Suzanne with her grant application to allow her to travel to Minneapolis. This opportunity has been made possible by the WA Arts Short Notice Activity Program funded by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC), Western Australia.
In addition to this amazing opportunity, Suzanne is also the 2024 Prelude Composer in Residence, based at the National Trust’s Gallop House in Dalkeith. Among applicants from across Australia, Suzanne was fortunate to secure this opportunity, allowing her to focus on her composing without the financial pressure of daily living costs.
Chantal, Suzanne’s NDIS Employment Support Coach, has supported her since August 2023. During their weekly sessions, Chantal assists Suzanne in completing important life administration tasks including financial paperwork and communicating with clients. The Edge team also assisted her in moving and transitioning into Gallop House.
Chantal’s assistance with tasks varies, allowing Suzanne to solely focus on creating music outside of their sessions.
Since graduating with a Bachelor of Music, majoring in Composition and Music Technology with First Class Honours in 2022, Suzanne has been self-employed as a Composer, Arranger, and Music Director. She arranges and composes music for performances and directs her ensemble Kol Nafshi (meaning ‘My Soul’s Voice’ in Hebrew) for private functions.
Expressing her gratitude for being able to pursue her passion through self-employment, Suzanne shared, “It allows me to pursue my passion and manage my own time, energy and workload. Work has provided me opportunities for travel and bring people a deep sense of community.”
We are extremely proud of Suzanne’s achievements thus far in her career and extend our gratitude to those who helped make her dream of witnessing her composition performed live in the United States a reality.
