Closing in on a dream

After graduating recently, school leaver Mitchell engaged with Edge’s NDIS services. Mitchell was matched with Edge NDIS Consultant David who saw, “a young man who displayed communication and social skills equivalent to that of your average small business manager.”

Mitchell was not aware of the many strengths and transferable skills that he already had. David worked closely with Mitchell discovering he was an online gamer who maintains his own server. Mitchell had several skills from running his server including resolving conflict, liaising with other servers, interviewing administrators to help run things, meeting with department heads and creating polls to receive feedback from his members. But Mitchell had never thought of these as transferable skills.

Over the next few months, they worked together to increase Mitchell’s confidence with interview training and social engagement. Before long, Mitchell’s confidence soared, and he set a goal to attend TAFE while working part-time. Mitchell believed in himself, and he was ready to take the next step on his employment journey.

David worked with our Disability Employment Service (DES) team in Joondalup and Mitchell was introduced to Edge Employer Consultant Sunny. Within weeks, Sunny helped Mitchell find an opportunity to work as a Kitchenhand at a local restaurant. Mitchell nailed his job interview and got the position! He also achieved his goal of beginning TAFE as he works towards his aspiration of securing a job in fabrication.

Our DES and NDIS teams are proud of Mitchell’s growth and are looking forward to continuing to support him on his employment journey.
