Celebrating a strong and successful Mother
To help celebrate all mothers on Mother’s Day, we shared the inspiring story of female unity and a special bond that enabled one of our clients to experience the power of employment. Without the support of her Nan, Mum or Aunty – proud single mum Zoe would not be able to work and provide the life she is creating for her young son.
25-year-old Zoe’s journey with Edge began after a family friend recommended our services, and it turned out to be a life-changing decision for her.
With the help and support of the Edge East Victoria Park team, Zoe became job ready and found suitable employment at CTI Logistics as a Telephonist. “Edge got me a job really quickly. I was trying for months prior to joining Edge with no luck,” said Zoe.
“Edge provided transport support by taking me to and from interviews which I was not expecting, but the support was very helpful. I wouldn’t have been able to do the interview without their support. The interview stage was a challenge in general for me, but Edge supported me through this and gave me guidance,” she continued.
Since being in the workforce, Zoe has experienced positive changes in several areas of her life. “Employment has helped me gain financial stability and allowed me to save money to apply for a single-parent home loan to gain independence. Work has taught me a routine, given me the options to afford things and built self-discipline for saving towards my goals.”
She has also greatly benefited from having an Edge Job Coach, Josephine, who visits Zoe at her workplace fortnightly. “My Job Coach has made me feel supported, more confident and safe travelling. The Job Coach visits were not expected but are really great.”
Zoe’s success in her new role is not only down to the support of the Edge team and her positive work environment but also to the influential women in her life. Her incredible team is helping her manage work and raise her two-year-old son, Zayden.
“My Nan is my main support; she is very dependable and reliable. She drives me to work every day and provides me with driving lessons on the way home. My Aunt is absolutely amazing to let us live under her roof and my mum, who shares a special bond with Zayden, helps babysit. The women in our family are all very independent, supportive and we depend on each other in challenging times.”
The Edge team continues supporting Zoe and her development, funding her Certificate III in Business (Administration) with Alffie, which is scheduled for completion in August 2023. This course helped Zoe land the role at CTI Logistics, who are considering offering Zoe a future Traineeship in Operations and Logistics to continue supporting her career progression.
Zoe is a proud single mother who dreams of owning her own home. We wish her all the best on this journey as we continue supporting and seeing her flourish.
