Australia Post become the largest organisation to achieve Disability Confident Recruiter Status

Edge is excited to announce that one of our valued employers, Australia Post, achieved Disability Confident Recruiter Status (DCR) this February. This means that the organisation has progressed towards becoming an Employer of Choice for people with disability.

This is a significant achievement for any organisation, let alone one with an extended workforce of 75,000 employees, and makes Australia Post the largest organisation to achieve DCR status so far – a real inspiration. With a presence in every community across Australia, Australia Post has worked diligently to ensure the organisation is a true reflection of all members across their communities.

“Australia Post aims to attract, support and retain skilled candidates with disability, so I hope that our DCR status provides job seekers with the confidence to apply for roles with us, comfortable in the knowledge that we value diversity and are committed to providing a barrier-free recruitment experience and inclusive workplace where they can thrive.”– Sue Davies, Executive General Manager, People and Culture, Australia Post.

Australia Post’s DCR journey has allowed the organisation to create new initiatives, including driving disability inclusion and examining what changes need be made to achieve this goal. As a result of these inclusive practices, Australia Post has now widened its talent pool for future employees.

Edge has worked closely with Australia Post since 1986. During this time, we have placed a total of 39 clients into employment, and provided them with opportunities to work in a range of roles across the organisation; including air logistics, delivery drivers, fleet maintenance assistants, mail clerks and postal delivery officers – or posties.

We currently have eight clients working at Australia Post, including Dylan and Zidane, who are undertaking School Based Traineeships and featured in one of our previous industry updates. Dean Drew, another Edge client has been an Australia Post employee since 1990. That’s an incredible 31 years!

While the team at Australia Post is proud of what the program has achieved, they know that a ‘set and forget’ approach is not sufficient when it comes to accessibility. They look forward to building on these results and continuing to elevate their practices into the future.

Here at Edge, we share their pride and acknowledge them as role models for other organisations, large or small, who also want to make a difference in their communities. We look forward to continuing and strengthening our partnership with Australia Post, for the next 35 years and beyond!
