An unsung hero

A highly regarded member of the Coles Presentation team, Eugene has worked three days per week at Coles in West Leederville for 15 years. An extremely committed and loyal staff member, Eugene has rarely had a day off since he began in the role in 2008.

Eugene is always early for work and happy to assist other staff with crushing boxes and other tasks around the store. The great work Eugene has been doing at Coles has not gone unnoticed by his colleagues and his Edge Job Coach, Kath.

Eugene recently received a shoutout on the staff notice board, highlighting the great work he does every day.

“I want to say a ‘BIG THANKYOU’ to one of the unsung heroes here at the West Leederville store. He’s been here a long time and is such a big help, getting rid of the empty cardboard boxes off the shop floor and my cardboard boxes from under the shelves. Would love to see this lovely man recognised.”
Eugene is deaf, but uses hearing aids to hear at a minimal level. His Edge Job Coach Kath supports him regularly, assisting with communication between Eugene, his manager and colleagues. Kath also assists Eugene with completing online modules.

When Kath visits Eugene at work, she is regularly approached by his colleagues, who sing his praises and say what a pleasure he is to work with. During a recent meeting with Eugene’s manager, she shared that “Eugene is a great employee; he is always on time for work, never takes time off and completes his tasks in an autonomous manner. He has a flexible approach to his work and a great work ethic and attitude.”
