A collaborative approach

Edge and Pan Pacific Perth have built a strong partnership together since 1988. Since this time, Edge has supported 26 job seekers into employment at Pan Pacific Perth.

One of these job seekers is Laura. Two years ago Laura began her role at Pan Pacific Perth in the Food and Beverage team and is now nearing the end of her Traineeship.

Since beginning her role, Frankie Broderick (Human Capital and Development Manager at Pan Pacific Perth) has helped support and encourage Laura to complete her Certificate II in Hospitality. “Laura has been with us for almost two years now and personally, it has been a privilege to watch her grow and develop in her role here. Laura has faced the highs and lows of the global pandemic with us, celebrated her 21st birthday, is set to complete her Traineeship at the end of this month and has worked in three different food and beverage outlets. You can now find her settled working four mornings per week in our breakfast restaurant, Monty’s.”

The support provided to Laura has been a team effort, “Through the support of her managers here at Pan Pacific Perth, particular shout out to Justine O’Meara, Outlets Manager, who has worked closely with myself, Laura and her Edge Job Coach Pauline, to grow and develop Laura both professionally and personally. Anyone who knows Laura at Pan Pacific Perth will tell you she is full of cheek and sass, and is a valued member of the team,” said Frankie.

Not only has the Pan Pacific Perth team helped Laura to learn on the job but Job Coach Pauline has also helped Laura flourish in her role.

Pauline has been helping Laura improve her customer service and observation skills. When we asked Pauline what supporting Laura is like, she replied, “Mentoring Laura in her Certificate II has been a pleasure. Watching Laura improve her skills, undertake new tasks and demonstrate her knowledge of the administration side of the job has proved to be amazing. Laura thrives on customer contact and her conversational skills are great.”

Laura receives her support through the Disability Employment Service (DES) and additional employment support through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Edge thanks the Pan Pacific Perth team for their continued support of people with disability and congratulate Laura for finishing her Traineeship this month.
